Central Jakarta Ramps Up Poverty Reduction Efforts in Four Key Areas

The Central Jakarta City administration is streamlining its poverty eradication initiatives in the Johar Baru area, specifically targeting Tanah Tinggi, Johar Baru, Kampung Rawa, and Galur.

We are also engaging the corporate sector to play an active role in poverty reduction

Central Jakarta Mayor Arifin stated that he has issued a formal directive mandating all regional government agencies (OPD) to implement strategic and integrated measures.

"Our latest evaluation reveals that some departments have not yet submitted their 2026 programs specifically designated for these four villages," he expressed, Wednesday (8/5).

He emphasized that the strategy is built on a holistic and all-encompassing framework. This includes bolstering community and economic empowerment, enhancing education, and improving the quality of environment and residential areas.

"We are also engaging the corporate sector to play an active role in poverty reduction. For instance, the Indonesian Doctors' Wives Association (IIDI) has assisted in renovating public sanitation facilities (MCK) in Kampung Rawa, while the 'Bedah Rumah' home renovation program is being conducted in collaboration with the Tzu Chi Foundation Indonesia and the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin)," he explained.

Arifin expressed his hope that the various poverty alleviation programs implemented throughout 2026 would yield a tangible impact, enabling residents in the four urban villages to break the cycle of poverty.

To ensure this, he has set a deadline of next week for all regional agencies to finalize their 2026 program entries specifically targeting Johar Baru.

"I am also calling on all agencies to propose 2027 initiatives that can be synergized across these four urban villages in Johar Baru Sub-district," he concluded.
